BRICS
BRICS is an international cooperative organization. Its founding member states are Brazil, Russia, India, and China. The concept of the "BRICs" was first proposed in 2001 by Jim O’Neill, Chief Economist at Goldman Sachs. The acronym BRIC, formed from the initial letters of the English names of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, has a similar spelling and pronunciation to the English word "brick," hence the name. In December 2010, South Africa joined the organization, after which it was renamed BRICS.
Since the establishment of the BRICS cooperation mechanism, the foundation for cooperation has been consolidated. In addition, the scope of collaboration has been gradually expanded. A multi-level cooperation framework has been established, led by the Leaders' Meeting and supported by ministerial-level meetings such as the Meeting of High Representatives for National Security and the Foreign Ministers' Meeting. Pragmatic cooperation has been carried out across numerous fields, including economy and trade, finance, science and technology, agriculture, culture, education, health, think tanks, and sister-city initiatives. BRICS has emerged as a constructive force in promoting global economic growth, enhancing international governance, and advancing the democratization of international relations.
