The South African rand has undergone many adjustments since its issuance, and a new version of the currency was launched in 2014. In 2023, due to the Federal Reserve's aggressive interest rate hike, the rand has depreciated by about 20% against the US dollar. The South African Central Bank has raised interest rates six consecutive times to the benchmark interest rate of 6.25%.
The South African Rand (currency code ZAR) is a legal tender issued by the Reserve Bank of South Africa. It was officially issued in February 1961 and replaced the South African pound.
The design of the South African rand banknotes is unique and incorporates various wildlife elements from the African savannah, such as rhinos, elephants, lions, buffaloes and jaguars.

Standard Bank of South Africa's CIPS system was successfully launched recently, and the first large-amount RMB payment service was successfully completed, marking that Standard Bank of South Africa has officially become the first CIPS local direct participant bank in Africa to launch operations.
